GitHub used its Universe announcements on October 28, 2026 to ship a broad Copilot wave. Three changes stand out for teams evaluating coding tools. Read the Copilot Fusion changelog entry.
Copilot Fusion
Fusion merges Project HydraFusion's multi-model orchestration with Copilot's auto model selection. Selecting Fusion in the model picker chooses a system that routes and orchestrates models per task — no manual model switching — with an effort-level choice (Fusion Standard prioritizes value; higher tiers push capability). GitHub reports Fusion Max scored 60 on the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, within two points of Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max, at roughly half the average API cost per task, about half the tokens and 40% less time per task. A companion changelog adds selection of local models in Fusion.
Copilot included in GitHub Enterprise
GitHub Enterprise now includes Copilot access, with usage metered from the first request against an enterprise budget using existing policies, alerts and attribution. Users without an Enterprise license keep access through Copilot Standalone at $10 per user per month with the same features and models as Copilot Enterprise, minus monthly AI credits. Code completion and next-edit suggestions keep working with no budget remaining; Copilot Chat, code review and cloud agents require available budget, and an exhausted budget never removes the seat.
Agentic Workflows GA
GitHub Agentic Workflows reached general availability: teams define automations in natural-language Markdown files — issue triage, CI failure analysis, documentation updates, test writing — compiled into standard Actions YAML that reuse existing runner groups and policy constraints, powered by GitHub Copilot or a bring-your-own coding agent. GitHub's internal rollouts report measurable gains, including one team where AI now authors 91% of commits and production errors fell from about 11,000 to under 1,000 a day.
Also in the wave
- GitHub intelligence: code, context and history put to work across the platform.
- Copilot Automations for shared team workflows.
- Image generation and editing directly in Copilot.
- A security extension for the Copilot app, and Universe releases for the Copilot app and VS Code.
Performance claims above come from GitHub's own changelog posts. Earlier steps are covered in our reports on HydraFusion and model additions; the Copilot profile lists entry points.
