MiniMax Code launches Mini Apps for long-running agent work

The October 22 release introduces Mini Apps in the MiniMax Code desktop app: plugin-installed applications with a frontend and Node.js backend that stay live in the page, plus a /miniapp-creator command and an open-source community repository.

MiniMax launched Mini App in the MiniMax Code desktop app on October 22, 2026. A Mini App is a long-running application with a frontend and a backend: it installs as a plugin, can call and be called by the Agent, and keeps the Agent's work on a page that stays live instead of scattered across conversations. Read the announcement.

Architecture

A Mini App is an extension compatible with the MiniMax Plugin protocol, with a miniapp.json manifest, a frontend and a Node.js server. The server fetches data, saves results and exposes the app's features to the Agent through hosted MCP. The page appears in the conversation sidebar and can pop out into its own window; processes, ports, authentication, credentials and rollback-capable publishing are handled by the host. Agent plugins change the Agent itself, the post notes, while Mini Apps let you build applications on top of it.

Three parts of the release

  • The Mini App runtime: a Node backend with a persistent data directory, hosted MCP, the Agent API, Host Connectors, and tool approvals handled right in the page.
  • /miniapp-creator: from a one-sentence chat request to a working page. The Agent first runs a read-only query against each data source to confirm real data access, then writes the page and backend, publishes the app, opens it, and checks the result with screenshots in the built-in browser.
  • Official Mini Apps in the plugin marketplace, plus MiniMax-Code-MiniApps, the open-source community repository.

First examples

Official examples include a stock dashboard combining Knowledge Planet, Jinmen Finance and Tencent Docs; CadQuery Viewer for marking positions on a 3D model and sending them back to the conversation; and a Self-drive Route Planner mixing map routing, place search and image generation. MiniMax Bot is itself a Mini App — the main bot assembles a team, hands long-running tasks to background Agent conversations and reviews results, with most updates requiring only a plugin change. Community-built apps include a token-usage dashboard, Git Commit Tree, Session Trajectory and creative tools.

The announcement page carries a date without a time of day. MiniMax's recent model launch is covered in our M3.1 Flash report.
